Long term
housing
Women who wish to live alone can apply
for long term housing with WHC-Women's Housing
Company.
In general, the same eligibility criteria
apply as for public housing with the Department
of Housing (DoH) and applicants are required
to provide us with their T-number which
verifies that they are eligible for public
housing and that they are current on the
waitlist.
Women already living in DoH accommodation
are not eligible, unless you live in a bedsit.
The waiting period varies depending on
your needs in terms of location, health
and social requirements; a rough guide is
2-6 years.
Women may apply for housing on compassionate
grounds if you otherwise would not be eligible.
Women who become ineligible after being
housed (e.g. pregnancy or living with a
partner) are assisted to access alternate
accommodation.

Standard
Properties
Women's
Housing Company Ltd is the lessor (landlord)
for all tenancy agreements. Some properties
are fully managed by WHC, called capital
properties. Others are leased by WHC and
managed by a private Real Estate Agency,
called leasehold properties.
It is not possible for an applicant or
tenant to specifically apply for one or
the other; offers are made based on availability.
The applicant can identify three Local Government
Areas in which you wish to live. WHC covers
the Sydney Metropolitan area.
A standard property (capital properties)
consists of a one bedroom unit with a shower
or bath tub. Security is provided by a deadlock
on the main door in combination with a security
screen on the unit door or a security main
door to the block of units.
Leasehold properties are generally chosen
by the applicant, requests for alterations
to the property, after moving in, are unlikely
to be approved. WHC does not have control
over leasehold properties.

How Much Does
It Cost

to be documented to WHC immediately and
take effect immediately.
